HOW DO I GET STARTED?
1. Complete the online Inquiries form or give us a call. We'll be happy to answer your questions and give you a quote over-the-phone.
2. Next, We will schedule a Meet & Greet at a time of your convenience.
3. Please make sure to have a garage entry code, 2 sets of house keys. -OR- lock box with your code ready for us. If you live in a building with a doorman you may choose to leave the means of entry with them.
4. During the Meet & Greet, we will introduce ourselves and get to know each other. Trust and personal relationships are what make Tails, Scales, & Nubs so special, and we want you and your pet to feel comfortable with us!
5. We will review your pet’s feeding instructions, routines, outside walk route, the location of toys and supplies, medications, and any special needs your pet(s) has. All notes taken during the Meet & Greet will be uploaded to your online profile.
6. We will review any home care needs such as newspapers/mail, light indoor plant watering, trash instructions, alternating lights, and blinds etc.… These home care services are included with all Tails, Scales, pet services.
7. Finally, we will explain our Tails, Scales, & Nubs Family culture, policies and procedures, collect the keys, and answer any and all questions you may have!

We service areas as far north as the City of Chicago!

*Chicago Areas are Only serviceable for Overnight Services until further notice.
**Areas 13 miles outside of Joliet, IL 60436 will have an added mileage surcharge.
***IRS 2018 Rate: 54.5 cents/mile
WHAT TYPE OF PETS DO YOU CARE FOR?
Primarily dogs and cats, though we are available for birds, fish, ferrets, turtles, lizards, small pockets animals (hedgehogs, guinea pigs, etc)! Even select livestock!
We are happy to say that we have -NO Dog Breed Exclusions-!
Temperament and behavior will be accessed during Meet & Greet.
It does get specific when it comes to reptiles...

Your pets will be much happier in their own home.
We will customize a schedule to fit your pets needs.
We do provide daily visits for your pets or we can stay overnight as well.
We do not board pets in our home.
WILL YOU USE A PET SERVICES AGREEMENT OR CONTRACT?
Yes, we do.
We will go over the services agreement and paperwork in detail during your Free Initial Consultation.

Daily visit checklist
Law enforcement notification cards

HOW DO I PAY FOR SERVICE?
For now, we ONLY accept CASH, PayPal or Google Pay.
We DO NOT, and will not, accept CHECKS for any reason!
WHERE DO YOU WALK MY DOG(S)?
We walk your dog(s) in the comfort and safety of your own neighborhood or in a nearby park.
Initially, when we first start out and getting to know a new pet, it's more realistic to take them out by themselves. After one or two walks I'd walk your pet in a small group if as many dogs are scheduled.
CAN YOU ADMINISTER MEDICATION TO MY ANIMALS WHILE I AM AWAY?
As long as you let us know of your pet’s individual needs when you first contact us and as long as your pet(s) do not pose a threat, we can administer medication.
IF MY PET HAS AN “ACCIDENT”, DO YOU CLEAN IT UP?
If there are always accidents, YES.
We do a walk through to check for accidents and we will clean up after your pets to the best of our ability.
IF the accidents persist, we will ask you to book an additional visit in the day to give your pet less waiting time to relieve their self.
I HAVE NEVER USED AN OVERNIGHT PET SITTER IN MY HOME. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW THIS SERVICE WORKS?
Our Overnight Service starts between 5-6pm and ends between 8am-9am each morning.
We will be allowed to take a brief dinner break, but must be in for the night by9pm.
On these Overnights, we will do everything you would to keep with your animals routines, including dog walks, feedings, fresh water, playtime, cuddle time and having your animal sleep wherever you would.
An Overnight is a perfect opportunity to choose an Add-On for your pet such as:
nail clipping, nail painting, quick bath, or other select requests!
If you would like a midday walk or additional time spent with your pet(s) during the day time, we will schedule an additional midday walk accordingly as a drop-in visit.
Please contact us to discuss your specific needs and dates!
We are 100% committed to providing the best care for your pet(s) and home while you are away.
We will leave your home orderly for your return, which includes mail and newspaper retrieval.
*We will tailor scheduling and experience within reason for what is best for you and your pet(s)!
WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE AN URGENT, LAST MINUTE, OR EMERGENCY REQUESTED VISIT? DO YOU ACCEPT THOSE?
Due to delayed flights, late work meetings, etc. we will do everything we can to accommodate the needs of your pet if you are stuck somewhere.
We understand that this may happen.
Please note that pending availability, we will try to accommodate your pet’s needs.
However, last-minute scheduling may not be available at the exact time your pet(s) needs to be relieved, as we request a 1-hour window for the requested time, and a short notice fee may apply.

If you do decide to hire us, and we are unable to arrive at the requested time, don’t worry.
We will do everything we can to ensure your pet is taken care of.
Expect that potty messes may occur.
We will just clean it up – like it never happened!
A small, last minute appointment fee may apply.
WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON PET SITTING AND DOG WALKING WHEN THE WEATHER AFFECTS VISITATIONS?
As long as the weather does not pose a threat to either sitter/dog walker nor your pet(s) we will certainly stay on schedule to ensure proper care during scheduled visitations.
It’s plausible that inclement weather (i.e. heavy rain or snow causing hazardous road conditions)
can potentially delay scheduled arrival times.
We will do everything we can to keep both your pet(s) and us safe.
When such weather conditions (including extreme heat) occur please understand that your dog’s walk may greatly be shortened to only allow for a quick potty break.
However, we will still stay with your pet(s) for the duration of the scheduled visit inside the safety and comfort of your home.
Extreme heat is the leading cause of strokes and heat exhaustion among pets that stay outside for too long.
We will avoid that by taking the client’s dog(s) on a potty break, instead of his/her normal longer walk.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHILE IN MY HOME?
While in a client’s home, we care for your pet(s).
Whether this is feeding, walking, playtime in your home or your yard, any Add-Ons or other services, and clean up if needed.
We do NOT:
watch your TV, eat your food, or use your phone/internet.
If deemed suitable for your pet(s), Animal Planet or a requested animal movie/video may be played for your pet's enjoyment.
They lock up when done with the service.
We pride ourselves on professionalism.
Just like other services (cable/contractor/plumber/painter/cleaning service) we are there to conduct business and care for your pet!
CAN I HAVE AN OVERNIGHT SITTER STAY AT MY RESIDENCE IF THERE ARE OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS OR PEOPLE STAYING THERE AT THE SAME TIME?
Due to liability issues, we cannot provide Overnight Pet Sitting Services if there are other family members or roommates in your residence at the time of the overnight stay.
There are NO exceptions to this rule.
It is for our safety and privacy.
We can offer drop in visits throughout the day if someone is there as another option.
I AM LEAVING IN TWO DAYS AND DON’T HAVE TIME TO MEET YOU. WILL YOU TAKE CARE OF MY PETS WITHOUT MEETING THEM?
We do require an Initial Meet & Greet before taking care of your pets.
Our goal during the Meet & Greet is to obtain all information required to perform pet care, dog walking, pet sitting services. We will tour your home (if pet sitting) to learn about your pet’s daily routines, where your pet supplies are kept, and your home security routines. We will also review household information and payment and cancellation policies, and collect two working keys.
WHAT KIND OF NOTICE DO YOU NEED FOR OUR PET SITTING AND OVERNIGHT RESERVATIONS?
In order for us to guarantee our availability, please give us as much notice as possible and check your email to make sure you receive a confirmation email from us that you are all set.
Keep in mind that the holiday season is always the busiest and we book up quickly!
DO YOU NEED US TO CONTACT TAILS, SCALES, & NUBS WHEN WE RETURN FROM OUR TRAVELS?
Please contact us when you return home so we are sure you arrived safe and well to your pet(s).
You may do so by phone, email or text.
All our contact information will be provided to you during your FREE Meet & Greet.
Should your return be delayed or extended, please let us know ASAP so we may coordinate to care for your pet(s).
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DID NOT LEAVE ENOUGH FOOD FOR MY PET(S)?
We will notify you that there is not enough food so that you are aware and perhaps you have more food in another place in your home.
If we do need to make a special trip to purchase food we will be glad to do so.
There will be a $25 trip charge plus the cost of the food.
If an extra trip to your home is needed for an extra visit to feed your pets, that will be charged as well.
HOW WILL I GET MY KEY BACK IF I MOVE OR DISCONTINUE SERVICE IF YOU ARE KEEPING MY KEYS ON FILE?
We will be glad to mail your keys upon your request if you have kept your keys on file with us as a ready key.
The fee will be $3.
If you need them to be dropped off, we can arrange that as well.
There will be a trip charge of $15 for this service.
IS THE INFORMATION I GIVE TO YOU CONFIDENTIAL?
We are committed to keeping all information we receive from our clients confidential, and will not disclose any of your personal information including your mailing address, phone numbers, and email address.
We will only use your information as a means to take excellent care of your pet(s) and your home while you are away.
HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHAT TIME YOU WILL PAY VISITS TO MY PETS?
Whether providing daily visits or dog walks to your pets, we will aim to keep as close to your pet’s routines as possible.
Just let us know the 1-hour time frame you prefer your pet's appointment to take place.
When we meet for your Meet & Greet, we will discuss all your pets’ normal activities, as well as any extra attention you'd like to treat your pet to, such as stimulating playtime games!
We’ll do our very best to keep that same routine.
